Think of this book as a navigational tool: a multi-layered
(zoom-in/out) set of maps displaying cultural terrain, and a compass to find
your way. It is designed to be use by different ‘travelers’: researchers and
practitioners, seasoned multinational firm executives and those in small firms
seeking internationalization, and anyone intrigued by the greater question of
human diversity. As you would expect from a good map, it is most rigorously
drawn, yet highly readable and convenient to use, covering key work-related
cultural dimensions for much of the world, and exemplifying applications in
most business areas. Also exhibited are the correlates of culture, some of
which, e.g., language and religion, speak to the origins of cultural variations
as much as they themselves are key variants of the global terrain. We also show
how patterns might have changed over time, providing a rigorous and realistic
assessment of the fruits of globalization. Below is a sneak peek into some of
the magnificent, innovative, and easy-to-understand exhibits.
